@ Bloom et. al.

It’s not being a nice guy that’s the issue or not, it’s the swagger/attitude/asserting/boldness/owns the frame part. A guy can be nice and also be this, they don’t have to be a jerk. But he will be a jerk if he needs to be.

About owning the frame:

Let’s change the context. Where I dance, there’s a guy who’s a vet who only gets to dance with women his wife approves. He doesn’t wear the pants, but most people defer to him. He’s envious of me that I can dance with whomever I like. His wife defers to me more than to him, although she publicly lavishes affection on him for the social benefit. Other men defer to him more–he’s very charismatic. Some women defer to him more, but they don’t know that he doesn’t wear the pants. If that were to be revealed, he’d soon lose a lot of social standing. I don’t play his social dominance game. I say hello to him and leave if he starts playing it.

When I go out dancing and my wife is present, I dance with whomever I like. She gets no veto or say in whom I choose to dance with. She’s a very tough broad and will let me know (heh, to put it mildly) her displeasure over one broad or another. It does no good to argue or get mad. Men, here’s what works–simply don’t give her little tantrums any attention and remove your attention if she throws a tantrum.
